I recently bought a 1972 C10 and the part that holds the rear coil spring to the frame is rusted off, it isn't doing much to hold the spring. Is this something to be worried about or will it run forever?

I bought new spring retainers (?) from Tim Christian. Rather be safe than sorry.......Pretty good price too..............Jerry

mine has been like that for a long while i keep meaning to fix it. its not a good idea to leave it that way i know better and know it needs fixed. the spring cups are cheap fix it

Thanks guys. I guess I will fix it for now. Within a year I hope to have bags at all four corners.

Good to hear you're fixing it. Major safety issue. It probably won't cause any problems and might stay like that for your lifetime, but if you hit a bump just wrong that spring could pop out.

Ya, it sounds like I should do something about it, especially since I plan to pull a trailer with it. I haven't looked much at it other than long enough to decide that it was broke, how does that part come out? Does it unbolt?

That is not pretty. It may stay like that forever, but then again ya never know....

As long as the shocks are still bolted on & even then if weight is on the truck it can't go anywhere. That being said, I would still fix it, esp. if you gonna tow ANYTHING, weird stuff happens pulling a trailer. Buy springs, all hardware & cups & cut it all off & replace it all, after 30+ years that stuff is tired & won't unbolt. Brian
