I wouldnt want to take my truck above 70mph...dont even know if it would do above 70 lol. My car's speedo registers 100mph...and it doesnt take long at all before that needle hides behind the "idiot lights" (brake lights and stuff on dash). Ive had my dad's rx7 up to 130mph and let off it....although it was barely climbing at that speed. Still climbing, but very slowly.
And if you want to count my dad's truck, he has had it up to 95mph with it still climbing pretty fast. But he let out of it, running out of road. And believe me...it doesnt take long to run out of road doing 95mph in a 18 wheeler

While your bragging my max is in a 91 Plymoth Laser(Eclipse). It had a 5speed turbo. Some redneck thought a 96 monte carlo would take it i held a buck43 for about 6mi . I looked at my speedoand heard a pop. Blew the dipstick out of the holder along with about a quart and a half of oil. I had enough time to pop the hood and grab a quart of oil before the monte went by at around a buck5 or so. I'll tell you what the 1st generation Eclipse is the funniest car i ever owned. Paid a grand for it put 17's on it tweaked the boost controller and ran constent 14.2 in the quarter. It's got to be pretty good pushin 23 pounds on a stock 4banger

I've had my ZR1 up to 150. They are supposed to run 180+, but I don't think I will be testing it anytime soon.....lol.
I don't think my green K20 will be setting any land speed records with the 4.56 gears........... |

This is NOT very responsible behavior. If you want to speed excessively you need to do it on a closed track! These are tha same type people who when they crash and leave 3 football field lengths of skidmarks / yaw marks , Possibly killing innocent drivers in the process. Excessive speeders usually lie and try to say a deer ran out in front of them or that they were going the speed limit or my personal favorite "This car wont even do 100 mph, officer" BS!
In actuality a driver who would never dream of drinking and driving will hop in their 2000 LB. missile and regularly drive 100 mph. Unfortunately these violators seldom wear seatbelts or check their tires... they dont even sign their license to donate organs! What a waste! Keep this kind of cr@p on the track !! How would you feel if some speeder killed your loved one? Then put yourself in the speeders place! I'm not a fanatic I just have to work these wrecks and it really sucks to see life cut short. I'm through preaching now... Back to your internet viewing. |

"How would you feel if some speeder killed your loved one?" I would be very upset. And the "street racers" who line up racing down the middle of main roads is stupid. Yes I push my car to high speeds on roads, but I do it on roads with no traffic. Roads that have only 1 or 2 houses if that on it. People say "well there is still a chance you could hit a animal and kill yourself"..maybe so, but thats my life, my decision, my fate. As long as Im not dangering the lives of others I feel its my decision weather I speed or not. Maybe if people would build tracks in my area for people to race, maybe people would pay to take their car on the track, rather then run it on the street.
Far as the seatbelt thing, again its my life. Me not wearing a seatbelt isnt going to indanger the life of another person. It should be my choice wether I wear it or not, I can see if it would be threatning to others if i didnt wear it...but its not. So it should be my decision. Far as my truck goes, it didnt come with seatbelts. And I talked to some officer's...they said it wasnt illegal for me to not wear them since the truck didnt come with them.

Someone outta check out the speedo on the new Ford GTs . It will read out past 200MPH I think. We had a dash out of one here at work and it was amazing to see, kinda like a dare to some folks I would have to believe. "He look dude let's see if I can pin the needle on the donkey(@ss)."

When I was about 16, I drove my dads 72 chevy truck( which he still has, under 50k on it) on a freshly graveled road with 2 full 100 gallon fuel tanks in the back. Not sure how fast I was going, but it was full tilt. Seemed to handle ok, but it "driffted" a little in the loose stones. That was 27 years ago, & I still have cold sweats thinking about it. But man, you should have seen the dust cloud behind me. Looked like the tail of a rocket. It's good to be alive!

Ran the tach up to 6000 on a 65 Chevelle SS 327 350 HP racing a Corvette. The speedo hit 120 at 4000.

i have been to 5500rpm in third gear th350 3.07's out back and 30 inch tires the calculator at prestage says that 160mph not bad for a 4000lb chunk of steel with the aerodynamics of a brick i do know the speedo will come around past 0

Maybe I'm the wimp here, but I've never had my truck faster than 100 mph -- Never faster than 85 mph...
I'd rather be alive to break 100 mph on the drag strip, then be dead with my speed being posted in the local newspaper...

Went probably 95-100 in my '81 Cadillac DeVille, racing across the desert in the middle of the night on the way back from Vegas, trying to beat this nasty electrical storm headed our way. I say probably, because the speedo stops at 85, and I was still goin'... Did I mention it started to rain down in a heavy downpour along the way? I still remember the slippery feel of the steering wheel under my sweaty palms.
The truck I've gotten up to 80 or 85. Going up a straight road with a slight incline. The stock cam and the 4.56 gears really make it peter out quickly. The rpm's were reaching 5 grand at that speed... So yeah, I haven't really gone too fast before. All my vehicles don't seem to give me the mechanical confidence to go very fast. :p |

My buddy is a cop and pulled a kid last Sunday for going 97 in a 45. He was driving a riced out RX7. He said he couldn't help but laugh at the kid when the vecro'd tach fell off in his lap. The kid also had a 5 point harness and wasn't wearing it. My buddy first told him he made him cuss on a Sunday (he said Holy Sh##) when he saw the radar readout, and then asked the kid if he wasn't wearing the harness then, when would he?

I don't have proof, but my Dad told me he's wound the speedometer on my truck around to the peg at 0 at the drag strip back in the late 70's. Fastest I've taken it up to so far is about 100.
