We used a real short nap roller :p

The gas door pocket assembly is out of a 1990 Mazda 626 with a remote release. Cut the door pocket assembly out of the Mazda with about 3/4" lip all the way around. Cut the inside bedside hole large enough so it would fit through to the back side of the outer bed side. Welded all around the radius of the door pocket assembly to the edge of the hole cut on the outer side of the bed side. Grind welds and smooth with a tiny amount of filler if needed (I needed it).
