Brakes ?
im sure this is a repost but, when i start on my truck id like to add disc brakes. i dont wanna spend big bux on aftermarket stuff. i just wanna know what fits from other years trucks or whatever i can find at the boneyard. ive got a 67 c20. i know some of the 71-72s had discs but they are gettin hard to find in salvage yards. will 73-up parts work? what years and what all will i have to pull from the donor truck? thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Welcome to the boards
You'll have to have the spindles, and tierod ends. All the brake componets, lines, calipers. Plus you'll need some adapters to male the two tierods mate up,one is a different size. Some one here can tell you where to get those.

You have several options:
1. Find a 71-71 C-20 at the wrecker that has disc brakes. You can keep the same ball joints - simply swap in the 71-72 spindles and find a mc/booster/proportioning valve for disc brakes. 2. Using later components is also possible, but a bit more work. What I'm doing is replacing the entire front crossmember in my '69 with a crossmember from an '84. In my case the entire crossmenber just swaps in and only two new holes need to be drilled. Perfect fit. You'll still need to get a mc/booster/proportioning valve set that works for disc brakes. Have fun.

so the 73-up parts will work? do i have to change out the whole crossmember? or will the spindles just swap out? i know ill need a new ms and prop valve and all. i just need to know what will work for sure on the spindles and discs.

the spindles will fit, just use the 73- up ball joints, they fit right into the older a-arms. If i'm not mistaken, when doing it this way you will lose a little bit in the turning radius, but it will work

you can grind off the steering stops and get the radius back. some people say that the easiest way is just change the cross member, but to do it right you still have to take it apart and put new tie rods and ball joints in. you can bay a whole conversion kit from some of the board venders on the front page, or go to the junk yard and scrounge up the parts you need. what ever you do if you go to a yard, make sure that you remember the year of the truck that way you can buy the tie rods and ball joints for that year
