What is the correct size bolt for the inspection cover for a th-400? Four bolts hold it in place. I put some in the other day and I knew they were too small at the time. Of course they fell out and gave me a start one night when I heard this horrible grinding sound, because the cover was rubbing the flexplate.
Gatta love phoenix arizona, it's the 23rd of December and I'm about to put on shorts and a t-shirt to go wrench in the driveway.

I've seen them 1/4 inch and I've seen them metric. I don't think there's any set rule of thumb. Some transmissions I have seen even use sheetmetal screws with hex heads.

I have had good luck using 1/4-20 x 1/2 self tapping screws. The early transmissions appear to be threaded 1/4-20.
