Ac/serpentine belt question
I just got the seerpentine belt assbl of a truck. I also got the ac compressor with it. What is the difference between the new pump and the one that is currently on my 72. Is it a total differnt system. I don't use my A/C because I never have my top on but wound like to have it look like it would work. An possible down the road use it.

Depending on the year, the compressor may have had r134a refrigerant in it. You may also have to have a couple of lines made up. Less oil. Other than that it should work just fine.

If I'm not mistaken, with the serpentine belt setup, your water pump will turn backwards? If it does, you'll have to get a water pump that works with a serpentine belt setup. Just my $.02 .

Like was said above it depends on year. Mine was marked right on the compressor R12.
If its an R12 setup it will work fine just might need to have new hoses made. If it is an R134a you can by a conversion kitto switch your system to R134a.

A reverse rotation pump would also mean reverse rotation fan. Also, the fan depth will probably be different than your current shroud.

Kinda sounded like he got the whole setup. But yes fan depth is a problem, BB fan shroud will solve that nicely.

the fan is taken care of switching to electic that is why I wanted to get the new alternator with the higher amps. I am looking for the water pump. I want to get the cast aluminum one so it doesn't rust. The one at the juck yard was all rusty.

oh also where can you find the conversion kit? Is it expensive? If so the pump might just be there for show.

Thanks larry, that is just what i needed.
My synopsis - I can have it looked like it is hooked up without ever changing it over to a 134 system, as ;omg as i don't use though it shouldn't hurt it anyway. And do the change over when I am ready, or more than likely can afford it. |
