What engine would you install?
If you could install any small block engine you wanted in your pickup, what would you install (running with a 700r4 transmission)?

I am considering a zz4 crate engine but I don't see that as anyone's choice. Is it not a good engine?

Well I like a 400sb but if I had the money maybe a Ramjet 350. or something with FI

I would go with the 6.0L LS1 with a carb and MSD Ignition. Bolts right up to the 700r4 and with the carb setup you can get away from all the complexity of fuel injection. Buy a small block motor mount conversion and your off and running.

There's no replacement for displacement, I'd go with the 383 and build it for torque. Nothing beats the ability to light the tires at will.

ZZ4 is a great engine, good power and reasonable cost. But since the topic is any engine, I think most are going to choose a little more exotic engine. I choose a twin turbocharged 427 s.b. built by some reputable shop. Since I am limited by dollars, reality says a 383 or 400 if available.

I would go with a TPI or LT1 350. fuel injection is not as scarry as it seems and makes for a truck that is much more fun to drive.

LS1 With TPI.......Is there any other dream smallblock? That's what I'm going with on my 72 2wd Blazer. I have a friend that was a driveability tech for GM for many years. He had the good fortune of attending many classes and seminars GM offered on this engine when it was released. I can't wait to do the install with him.

The ZZ4 385 fast burn crate is a nice engine. Has plenty of torque and power for whatever you do. I have it in my stepside with a 700R and love it.

I'd build up a seriously mean 383. I just like the way that those odd numbers sound: 327, 383, 427, 454, etc. Plus it's only 17 less cubes than a 400.

427ci LS1 solid roller. Then I'd have a excellent idle, at least 575rwhp and fuel economy (if I could keep my foot out of it). Hmmm, maybe that's what I will do.
