Question about bent frame! - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey guys! I started taking my truck apart this week for a complete restoration and noticed that the frame seems to be bent slightly in front of the front crossmember.

If you look at the truck straight on the radiator support on pass. side seems to be a little lower. Driver side is fine but passanger side frame rail is canted a little. Could it be tweaked back into place? Any suggestions on what to do.

The blazer I am rebuilding has about the same damage to it. Looks like the PO slammed the tow hook down on something. The frame bent and the tow hook didn't. It really is only affecting the bumper alignment on mine. I was thinking I might take it to a collision repair shop and see what they wanted to straighten it right. If that is too much, I am going to try tweeking it back with some hydralic bottle jacks and some chains. If that doesn't work, I'll pick up a new frame. I really don't want to do that though since I don't want to do a frame off.

I'd find another frame. Is this a 2wd coil sprung rear? If it is, it shouldn't be hard to find another one in good shape.

It's possible to repair sagging frames by most body shops and isn't all that uncommon. Alot of vehicles will cant slightly over the years from engine weight, wear and tear, etc. If you try to have the truck alligned, sometimes they won't align or alow shims to be used on one side or the other, but the shop should be able to tell you how many degrees to have the frame tweeked.
