What does this connector go to? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Can anyone tell me what this connector goes to? It's been laying on the manifold since I bought the truck, I traced it back to the relay(or what ever that is) on the right directly behind the hood spring. Many thanks!

oh ya - the wires are blue, brown, and brown w/ white stripe.

It went to a solenoid that controled vacumn to the dist. on stock setup from factory for smog purposes.

If you trace it back, you can remove the whole TCS harness as it is separate from your main harness. I would suggest keeping the harness intact.

The TCS (Transmission Controlled Spark) controlled the vacuum advance on the distributor and only allowed it to work when the transmission was in direct drive and the engine temperature was over 160 degrees F. As mentioned it was part of the early emissions add ons and it basically kept the timing retarded somewhat for a significant time that you were driving the vehicle.

Longhorn,

There are way too many acronyms in the language today! Almost everthing is described as three letter initials.

I mainly wanted to suggest keeping the harness as we never know what the law makers will come up with as far as emissions go.

Actually, in all reality it is against FEDERAL law to remove any polution controll device or system, or to render it inoperable or non functioning.
They did that from the get go on emmisions controll products.

I should be in prison 30 times over then, man this reminds me of the time I removed all the emisions of the 350 in my 79 one time, air injection, transmision controlled spark, EGR, thermatic air cleaner catylitic convertor, charcoal canister, ick, well I certainly have enough spare vacum line kicking around now though

Is that TCS for auto trans, only? I think I had one of those connectors laying on the engine in my manual trans K10 before I pulled it for rebuild. I know it's originally a manual trans truck because the z-bar bracket is rivited to the frame. TIA.
