gov lock rearend

whats a gov lock rear end? how is it diff from posi.?

It is a later model version that is known to be rather weak. The basic clutch design is there (like the old posi) but there is a centrifugal governor that is supposed to regulate it. These little "clock works" looking pieces are the weak point.
They are somewhat ok with stock motors, stock size tires and normal street driving. Anything more and they break the little parts which go through the bearings and gears.

They are a great idea, but I second the "Gov-Locks are weak" comment. Mine was okay with the factory 6" wheels and puny tires, but shortly after I went with 255/70R15 BFGs I was turning around in a freshly paved parking lot at about 10mph and the Gov-Lock munched itself.
