Power Steering Pump replacement tips?
Any tips on the best way to replace a power steering pump on a 72' 350 V8? It looks like it's very difficult to get to. Is it better to remove the hydraulic lines from the pump first or from the power steering box. I'm pretty new at this stuff so any tips would be appreciated.

Have kitty litter there...you'll have quite a mess. They ere kinda like trannys. No matter how hard you try, you're going to be cleaning a rather large mess.

My truck has a 402, but I am sure the power steering pump is about the same. I removed the hoses from the pump, rather than the box. If I remember right, the brackets are a real pain in the butt, and just require a lot of blood sacrifice.
If you reuse your old housing, and just replace the pump assembly, be sure to put a light coat of oil on the o-rings, i DID NOT AT FIRST, AND THE PUMP WOULD NOT GO IN THE HOUSING. )sorry about the caps, fat fingers I guess) Any way, the orings seem to be a critical thing, and double jointed fingers. Good luck.
