Originally Long or Short Water Pump?

Did the 67-72's come with a long nose water pump or short? Is there a difference in 2 or 4 wheel drive?

I'm yanking the old 6-250 and dropping in a SBC in front of the 4-speed. The 350 I'm putting in has a short one on it and I need to get all other accessory mounting (alt, pwr steer). I was going to go to the boneyard and find a donor SBC but though you guys could give some insight as to what I should look for to achieve ease of installation.

I was thinking if I were to put it in the 6-250 mounting location and got a 4x4 shroud - would I want long or short. I'm open to other ideas/suggestions. I'm not really worried about stock but rather fit/function...

Originally, they came with short pumps. However, I believe it's been said on here that if you install in the inline position, the long pump works and tucks the fan into the shroud.

I use a long pump with big block engine mounts and a big block shroud. Everything fits like a glove. I dont know if the 6 cylinder mounts put the transmission in the same place though.

If you put a v-8 in the 6 posistion, the short pump will work with the 4x4 fan shroud and the long pump will work with the 2x4 shroud. Good luck.

If you get lucky at the bone yard(unlike me) you might find an engine with all the pulleys and brackets you need. Get everything.
I changed to a long pump because a bolt for the alternator bracket busted off in the head and I couldnt get it out cleanly. Had to splice alternator wires to get to the other side of the motor. Ive got a unique belt setup because I was scrounging stuff here and there. Got a pic if you want.
Cant help you with the fan stuff, I went electric.
