anyone install a 5-spd in a 4x4 ?

I need to know, if you have done it, does it need to be from a 4x4 donor ? Or will a 2wd donor late 80's work? I know all about the hyd. clutch and speedo stuff. Just need to know which I need to adapt it. Thanks.

It can be done. Check with Advance Adapters, they have all of the parts to do the NV4500 swap. Try and get an early GM trans as they have a lower first gear than the Dodge or later GM trans. Advance sells trans also, but you should hold on to your ankles...

NV4500 = trouble.

At least if you don't prepare for it. There is a known problem with 5th gear. A nut on the shaft that has 5th backs off and then you have a 4-speed. Happened to my Dad twice, after he blew his first NV4500, of course.

I'm not too sure I still want to go with the 4500...

ROTFLMFAO, hahaha, yeah i've seen a few 5-speed in our trucks. doesnt seem hard to do but i dont much about newer trannys. i think you can make some cash if you made a kit simple enough for someone to under stand cause i know a few poeple like the newer style clutch setup
