He found 15 other nuts.It`d have be going in a prestine Duece.Kinda like a $1300 NOS truck door.I paid $325 back in`91(before repro explosion)for a NOS saddle steering wheel for a`72 K/20 CheyenneSuper CustomCamper w/tilt,tach,auto,posi,aux tank,tool&storage,wood floor,bumper-guards,a/c,am/fm all on VIN-spec.I figured it deserved it.Not so crazy if you have one of the nicest dueces on earth that could use a better steering wheel.I agree,that`s an aweful lot.Even his description says:$150-600.So,he`s gettin`more than he figured.That`s collectible auctioning.

I just recently sold one on ebay. Mine didn't have any of the mounting hardware or the horn cap and it had several cracks in it and I got $191.00 for it. If someone doesn't want to go the aftermarket route, this would be about your only option. That thing is show-ready and it's original. I would never do it, but I can understand why someone would.

I have determined that something is worth what a person is willing to pay. I was looking for a throttle cable for my son's dirtbike once and found a new one on e-bay for starting price around $4. A new one at the dealer was $10.75. This one I found was a NOS cable still in the plastic and wound up going for $14 plus shipping!

Nothing compares to the $900.00 BOLT (yes, a ^@$#%$-ing BOLT!!!) for a COPO Camaro shifter...NOS, of course(!) that went on the 'bay last month. No one can tell me that that BOLT is a COPO-specific application.

Classic cars and parts are not worth alot of money, there are just a few dumb people who don't care what outrageous amount of money they pay for something. So, they spend $1000 on a steering wheel and now everyone who happens to have a steering wheel even only remotely close to that one thinks it's worth $1000 and they try to sell it accordingly. See, these idiots drive up the price on parts and now the rest of us can't afford to buy them.

I have two big five-gallon buckets of bolts in my shop. Figuring that $900.00 bolt actually sold to some idiot with more $$$ than sense, I figure I can get about $2.7 million dollars on the 'bay with my two very large contaners of exceptionally rare automotive fasteners!

A primo condition woody wheel is one thing - a bolt no one will ever see is quite another.

Make fun all you want but I've sold some high dollar bolts myself. When someone is doing a restoration on a high dollar muscle car it's the small things like the correct markings on bolts that make it so valuable. For example a matching # 69 SS396 Chevelle is worth more if all parts are correctly date coded compared to another that was just pieced together with junk from Pep Boys. Not saying it's the bolts that make it either. There are lots of parts to think of(batteries, belts and hoses, glass, pullies and brackets, ect). Not everyone has the money or determination to completely restore a car #'s matching. May seem silly to some people but more power to them. Lots of people say a 509ci motor in a 71 Camaro is silly but it makes me happy. It's all in what makes you happy.

Like I said,"He`s getting more than he expected".Says reserve was met.Lets not bash people because they want something we can`t have,don`t want,or wouldn`t pay that much.Antiques & Collectibles go for what people will pay.There is no "real" book value.Consumer Reports doesn`t do write-ups.You can`t really do comparative shopping.If you see it,you have to buy it or pass,and hope you might see another one for less.I can`t see paying big money for a piece of hardware you can`t see,even by car show judges.Now,a steering wheel is right there in your face,you hold it,and control the vehicle with it.It truely adds to the driving experience.A repro steering wheel for our trucks runs in the $150 range+shipping.LMC gets $169+25=$194 for a run-of-the-mill truck steering wheel(repro).Grant & other aftermarket wheels go for what?You can buy those by the 100s.Put it in perspective.We`ll pay $6000-? for a truck that is relatively plentiful that cost $2500-4000 new 30+years ago.You won`t have to go far to find someone to call that crazy or idiotic.I guess anyone that`s willing to spend more than someone else is stupid.Like Vette owners,PebbleBeach cars,feature vehicles in magazines,or the nicest trucks on this site.Unless you own it.

Those of you who have built clasics to #s are dedicated. I am trying and it is hard. I have a hard time paying some of these prices. But that is why my 67 is a custom daily driver and my Elky is a ground up "nice" resto. NOT completly #s.

People are restoring Chevys and Fords and Mopars. Transportation modules in their day. Hardly the same as Duesenbergs, Auburns, Cords, Rolls-Royces, and the like. These were hand-crafted, often one-off works of art, literally! The musclecars, old trucks, and such are just that. Assembly-line built, 75-100 per hour, and the bolt holding the fender on a 250 Six-cylinder Camaro is the same bolt as is holding the fendeon a COPO Camaro. Anyone who pays $900.00 for a stupid Camaro shifter bolt hidden where no one will ever see is an idiot. Period.

Believe me, I don't bad-mouth or bemoan wealth; quite the contrary!, as I'm on my way to that part of life and will retain my anoynimity - fortune without the fame, so to speak. I'm just amazed at the ridiculous lengths people will go to to restore a car, then make sure no one ever sees it, and even then, pay outrageous prices for parts that aren't even date-coded and aren't seen by even the pickiest judge. Hey, if someone is smart enough to sell a bolt for $900.00 to someone stupid enough to pay it, more power to 'em!!! However, if the buyer would be so kind as to send me, oh, say, a thousand dollars, just because. No more ridiculous a reason than the $900.00 bolt, now, is it???
