Question Electrical plugs on firewall...

Hello All--
I'm trying to track down a short in the electrical system of my '72 truck. I was looking at what appear to be plugs where the wires go through the firewall near the power brake booster. I tugged on them a little but they didn't budge. Are these really plugs? Do they unplug from outside or inside the cab or both?? I've heard that you guys replace entire cabs, so I assume that something must disconnect somewhere!!

Thanks in advance...

That square thing that the wires go through IS a plug. If you take the center bolt out, the plug will come out.

I think your talking about the tail light plugs. I can't remember if they come out from the inside or outside. There are a couple other cables that run out of the cab around there, make sure its not one of those.

Witch wires are you talking about? The main harnesses that behind the fuse panel? If so you have to unscrew the 3/8" screw that holds the two plugs in. Then you can seperate the two by sliding them apart. The other harness that is close to the firewall is the taillight harness and the part that unplugs is actually on the interior side of the firewall. You can unplug it from the engine side but molded to the harness itself is the grommet that protects the harness. You can work that grommet out by wiggling it around and it will come out. Thanks! It is the main harness behind the fusebox, and now that I've peeled back the crust and wires, I see the screw holding me up! Thanks!
