5 lug and disk brake conversion
How hard is it to convert over a '68 chevy trucks 6 lug to a 5 lug configuration and add disk brakes, the catch is using maybe '73 and up parts. Can't find '67-'72 used parts.
PLEASE HELP, TIRED OF LOOKING. |

I did mine with 71 parts, just bolt in and go. Did you try Mothertruckers ? They have alot of good used parts. I think you will need a lot of custom parts to use a 73 and up, but not sure.

You can use up to a 79 model disc set but you will have to swap the whole front crossmember. I am in the middle of this myself. The front crossmember comes apart pretty easey. I think there were about 6 bolts holding it together. You will have to enlongate 2 holes in the frame but I have not made it that far yet. You will also need brake lines from the year model truck you use. Hope this helps.

go to www.earlyclassic.com They have some magazine articles on their site you can look at. I've changed my 69 to discs. Several other people have done this too. We all have our different opinions on which is the best.

Kattdaddy, I have just completed this conversion on my 70.
I used Belltech 3" drop spindles, rotor, caliper, etc. for 73 model. The outer tierod will be 73 and from the inner tierod will be 70 model. The 73 uses larger adjuster than the 70. hence 73 on one end 70 on the other. Fatman Fabrications in Charlotte, NC made them up for $50. FYI
