Temperature Sensor

I put a new temperature sensore on my truck this weekend. The connector on the old one had worn out so I thought a new one would be in order. I put the new one in, put a new connector on the wire and hooked everything up. Now my temperature guage is very erratic. It will show extremely not long after the truck cranks up (in 30F weather) and will still show a reading after the truck has been turned off (I thought they only registered when the truck in on).

What could I have done? Did I possibly get a bad sensor or something. Everything worked beforehand, I just couldn't keep the wire attached to the sensor

Edit.. Sorry. 70 Chevy C-10. Crate Small block 350 with less than 10 miles on it. LOL

Possible air lock? Sometimes the gauge will read erratic if the system is low on coolant or air locked...just a thought, good luck on figuring it out!!

Ok.. scratch that. It's electrical. All my guages are going bonkers and now the truck won't start. Ugh.. what have I done...

Check to see of the guage is grounded. I had the same problem it would show full hot
as soon as it got power. I had to run a ground wire directly to the bottom post on the
back of the guage. For some reason it wouldn't ground though the dash panel.

As for not starting, is the engine turning over at all? If not, check the park/netural switch
on the steering wheel if you have an automatic. I've knocked that switch loose before
working under the dash and spent over an hour tracking it down.

I've got something that is draining the battery. I'm trying to track it down. Electrical stuff is certainly not my specialty. At one point the horn relay was the culprit. I'll see what I can find this weekend
