What tranny could it be??

I ran accross a trans for sale that has me baffled. It was assumed to be a SM 465. Not. The bellhousing says GM made in Mexico cast in. It came out of a 1 ton 70 model. There is a hump towards the rear drivers side and reverse gear is to the right and forward. The same side as 465 but opposite direction?????? Does anyone know what it is? It has a PTO cover on the passengers side and not the drivers.

Sounds like a backwards 420. Never heard of reverse in that direction in any trans

It is a wierd one! It has the sm465 length, but thats where it starts getting different. Only one PTO port on passengers side. Reverse shifting is on the same side as the 465 but forward engage instead of back.
Still researching.

Not trying to bust your you know whats but it sounds like the 420 but you maybe are looking at backwards or something? The way you describe it if what you call the rear of the tranny were actually the front then it would match a 420 exactly.

Please read my post again. The 420 has the pto door on drivers side and hump on passengers side. I know that tranny like the back of my hand! I have one I adapted to a Jeep. I also have about 6 spare 420s!!!!

NP435? They were used in two wheel drive GM trucks of this era. I have never owned one, and I don't know the shift pattern.

Yep, NP435 responded on your other post. Should have an aluminum top.

The Length Is 12, The Np235 Is 10 3/4. That Is Why The Guy Thinks It Is The 465.

The 465 has 2 pto covers. Do you have a picture? It is a 4spd? At least that's what everybody is assuming.
