Hood problem
72 C10
I took off the hood and the hinges. Painted them. Hood won't come down to be flush with the fenders at the back. Oiled the snot out of the springs/hinges. What's the secret? Got a fat neighbor who's willing to ride on the back of the hood, but don't think the offer will last long. Thanks |

Weak and worn out hood hinges causes this. I just helped my dad replace his and this problem was solved!

also not having the hinges adjusted right will do that, loosen the bolts to the fenders with the hood lifted, and push up on the front of the hood, keep adjusting it up and down liek that untill you get it right.. i just did mine tonight, took me an hour to get it to line up right

Blue_71 is right if it was ok before you removed it, it should go back. You just have to work with it. If your hindges were worn before no amount of adjusting will get it all out. Good luck.

Chevyman68/10 and Blue...71 were exactly right. Do what they said. The only thing I would add is, loosen up the 3 bolts on each side that hold the springs to the fenders. Don't take them out. Then squirt some oil in there. Have a beer and invite a neighbor over to hold up the hood. Works great! (the beer AND the adjustment procedure) The back and forth adjustment is done with the bolts that hold the hood onto the springs.
Thanks, guys. |
