My oil gauge acts like my wife...
Always over-reacting....
When Im cruzing on the freeway it is pegged out way over to the right, but when Im at idle it is only 1/4 of the way over (too low). I checked my oil and it is fine. It even does this right after an oil change. Does this happen to you? Think I need a new sender?

I,ve heard an old engine-builders tale that says you need 10 lbs of pressure for every 1000 rpms. My buddy said that was a Smokey Yunick theory...... Jerry

Sounds normal to me, I don't know the increments of pressure on the stock guage but 1/4 doesn't sound too low, it's probably 10-15 pounds at least, which should be okay. Mine used to always peg the stock guage too when the I ran the RPMs up.

the standard guage is 60psi. The 1/4 mark would be 15psi at idle. More than enough pressure for a chevy engine. It sounds like you might have a high pressure oil pump in your engine. Not neccessarily a bad thing, but it will peg a 60psi guage. FYI...80psi guages were available on the larger trucks.

The 10 psi per 1000 rpm thing is an official GM guideline. That's how they determine warranty claim validity.
