he says there is a reserve...but it doesn't state one on the add

I think he's pulling a fast one on ebay. It costs extra to run an auction with a reserve. He's avoiding the costs, and states he'll pull the auction if a set price is not reached.

yea i just noticed that too... he's not going to sell it for under the reserve price.. but since there isnt one i guess 500 is the reserve price!!

Sounds like with a minute or two to go, if the price isn't at least $3800, he's gonna pull the auction. I've seen it done before. Kinda cheesy way around reserve prices.
