Who has shipped a transmission
Someone wants me to ship them my granny four speed transmission that I am selling. I don't have it out of the truck so I can't say how much it weighs-- does anyone have an estimate on the weight? also, what would be the best way to package it?
thanks brad |

I banded mine down on a 2x4 plywood skid, sent it through ABF - It costs about $100 to ship cross country.

I just bought a five speed with bellhousing, clutch, flywheel and pressure plate and it was shipped from Illinois to Alabama for $125. The transmission and bellhousing weighed 119 pounds and the flywheel, clutch and pressure plat was 46 pounds. The tranny was mounted in a wooden crate of 1/4" plywood and shipped UPS ground.

I shipped a muncie for a passenger a few years back. The tranny you're shipping is WAY heavier. I built a plywood box and shipped it through fed-ex ground. It cost the buyer about $90.00 to get it from Nevada to Florida. I even went to the hardware store and bought two metal handles. I figured the drivers along the way would appreciate that and hopefully handle the box a little better. It must have worked. The buyer got it fast and undamaged.
