On a 71/72 K20, are AUTOMATIC and MANUAL transmission crossmembers the same part. Can they be interchanged with just different mounts??
Thanks for your knowledge, 72longbed |

What different mounts? The mounts go to the adapter between whichever tranny it came with. AFAIK, oem '71/'72 adapters all used the two piece mounts. My '71 K10 w/SM465 and my '71 K20 w/TH350 use the same transmission xmember mounts. Both have NP205s, of course. BTW, Energy Suspension makes the two piece mounts in poly.

4x4poet,
what is a AFAIK?? So the transmission mount is eliminated, and the crossmember bolts only to the transfer case adapter?? Let me know if this is correct. Thanks, 72longbed |

I was going to ask about those poly mounts and thought I would jump in here. Any pro's or cons with these? Do I have to use there motor mounts to? |

Cons: Cost. About $60 for the trans mount pair. About $20 for the torque bushings. Pros: Impervious to oil, grease. Won't rot as rubber does. Retains shape. Made of soft poly to allow some flex and not transmit vibration. Comes with gold, cad-plated plates. Looks great if you crawl under the truck. ![]()

I saw the poly engine mounts available at Brothers. They are listed as big block mounts. They are the same as the 4x4. I used the same crossmember on my last 72 that I converted from manual to auto. Had a donor truck.
