Awesome '70 Chevy C30 wrecker on ebay

Found this one while surfing on ebay. Supposed to have the 1.5 ton suspension but look at the rear cover in the pic. There's no way that's the H110 rear, looks like a Dana 60 or 70? It's also got disc brakes in the rear, that sure ain't factory.

Could also be a 14 bolt rear, as some companies have started making disc conversions for the duallys. Definetly a sweet looking truck. A holmes 480 sure is big for a unit for light duty truck.

It could be the H110

there is also this one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...e=STRK:MEWA:IT
..another tow truck but a GMC also with the H110 rear end..he lists it has the 6.17 rear gear ratio. I've only seen the H110 have those.

Note the 5 bolt hubs on the front and the 10 bolts on the rear axle..kinda hard to see on either auctions pics. The rims have ten holes but only use 5 on the front.

Looks liike a definate swap with the disc on the first Chevs auction....could been a swap to one of those disc kits..those rear drums are even harder to find than the 71-72 dually 1 ton ones.

You know what...I bet someone took the suspension from a newer GM 3500HD and swapped it into that truck. Those 3500HD's had the exact same 5 lug front/10 lug rear as that truck (they also had the ugly grey plastic grille extension above the bumper, with 3 rows of vent holes). they used a dana 80 rear axle, and some of the newer ones had discs, iirc. pretty sweet!

I have to disagree that its a H110...in the one pic I can see what kinda looks like a bolt holding the diff cover on, which the H110's didnt have.

Hey Rod the C50 I'm looking at has the lugs the same way 5 up front and 10 in the rear. Did the C30s come like this?

Jims70GMC, both of my C30's have 8 lug front and rear, for what that's worth.

Also, the tow truck there on ebay has a bolt on rear diff cover. I thought the HO110 did not have that.

This is factory.Cab/Chassis and Forward Controls were available this way. They were marked as 30s and had 5f/10r lugs. Not sure when rear discs came in.I`ve seen plenty of heavier StepVans this way since,at least, the early 80`s-late 70`s.I bought the cab off of a`69 from Bill`sBowtie.

also the 157" wheelbase (motorhome, stake, chassis/cab) came exclusively with the 6.17 rear ratio. also my 1 tons both are 8 lug front and rear.

I own 2 157" C30s, a 1967 GMC and a 1968 Chev.
My 67 came with 4.57 (351e V6 engine), and my 68 with 5.14 (327 V8).
Both were factory cab/chassis trucks delivered to Open Road for motorhome conversion.

Da-Burb has a 71(?) C30 with a 402 BB and 4.10 gears.

ON the 5/10 lug wheel setup: I believe that the only trucks that got the 5/10 19.5" wheels were the 11K gvw trucks (and not all 11k trucks got 19.5's)? I am not stating that as fact, but haven't seen anything that tells me different.
Special K, what was the gvw tag on that cab you bought from Bill?

i thought the 157" models came standard w/6.17 rears--although all models could be ordered with optional rears. the 157" i believe were the only models that came standard w/6.17s. i'll have to go re-read the literature. by the way both my 1 tons are 5.14s.

Chris H is right about my motorhome, and yes it is a 71. It started life as a 157" cab and chassis with a 402, TH400, and 4.10 rear gears. My 72 C30 dump truck is also a 157" chassis and also has 4.10 gears with 350V8 and 4 spd manual trans. And I too have lusted after that tow truck......If it wasn't so far away I would have put it to good use. The $3350 final price isn't out of the ball park yet in my opinion.
