Full Time P.s. ???
I just picked up a 77 short bed and have rebuilt the entire front end ( all ball joints ,all tie rod ends , idler arm , pitman arm , ect. ) and even though there is no play in the steering wheel the truck steers way too easy and its almost like a floating sensation . Did some of the earlier 70's trucks have full time power or could there be something wrong with the pump ? Thanks.

Nope. Thats how these trucks are. WAAAAAY overpowered power steering.

Is your front end alignement verified to be correct after all the work?
That sounds like improper toe-in, or not enough caster. Either will make the truck drive "light" or "twitchy"

Ive owned many 77's and they're all one-finger-U-turn trucks.. Do you have the steering stabilizer connected? that would provide some resistance but probably not a lot to make a difference in the feel @ the wheel

Id rather it be "floaty" than no power steering......God it must be a beast to drive one of our beheamuths w/o p/s....

My 85K10 had very worn steering, but still turned really easy, my 89 Blazer has tight steering(everything was replaced), and doesnt turn too easy(with 31's or 33's) and i checked the toe-in and i think its actually toed-out. Not good.
Every other 73-87 chevy I have driven had powerfull steering.

my 77 also steers very easily, almost to the point of feeling worn out. although i havent had a chance to look at it yet, so it very well may be just worn out.
