I think I may have a power steering box around here that I can sell you. Will look thru my stuff tomorrow. Don't think I have a pump though, but I have seen pumps on ebay a lot with brackets.

Thanks, Rick. Let me know.
The prices I'm look at to go all "new" are pretty much : Pitman arm for power steering - $40 2WD rebuilt power steering box - $225 Power steering pump - $80 Don't think that includes all of the brackets, two hydraulic hoses or pump pully (not sure). I've already got the bracket to hold the pump and the dual pully on the alt.

Good luck - Bob

What I have is a used power steering box on a parts truck, not sure how long it has sat, 71 C-10 V8. If you can't find anything better let me know and we can see what it will take to get it to you. Don't forget that they are heavy.

I'm well aware this isn't a perfect world and it doesn't always work that way - I'm sorry you didn't get the part either, but somebody at this forum walked away with it and they're apparently not interested in ID'ing theirselves (probably with good reason; I wouldn't want anyone to know I did it either). I don't like being "snaked" when I'm trying to find something I need. Quote:
I'm grateful for all of the kind people here. I donated money to the forum to show my appreciation. This place and the people in it are priceless....It just sucks that there's a snake in the bunch who's willing to do that. Thanks for all of the help. You can let this thread die. I'll find something. I'll probably just spend a couple hundred extra and buy new.

Shifty - last time I was at the junk yard near here, they had a 71 or 72 C10 with a 6 banger and ps. Gear was there, pump and mount was there, I think one line was cut or missing but can't remember for sure. I can check it out if you want. I don't know if you should reply here or PM me to be legal, but I won't give it to anyone else. I know it's a little far shipping but maybe I could help.
edit- Is that for a 292 or 250 if I go looking ? Last edited by Green Machine; 03-13-2005 at 03:50 AM. |

I had a 67 that I installed a power steering gearbox on from a late 70s truck. It bolted right on with no modifications other than having to cut a notch in the bumper bracket. I'm guessing that a steering box off a 73-80 truck will work. About 15 years ago when I was buying parts for my 67, there were a lot of 67-72 trucks in wrecking yards. Now there are a lot of 73-80 trucks in wrecking yards. You should be able to find a good used steering box in a wrecking yard for not much money.
You were asking about transmissions. My 67 originally had a 250 in it with a 3-speed manual transmission and an overdrive unit attached to the back of the transmission. It was kind of a pain to shift into overdrive. Once the truck was up to highway speeds, there was a handle that you had to push in. This cable put the overdrive unit into a freewheeling mode where if you lifted your foot off the gas, the engine would go to idle as the truck was flying down the road. Then to shift into the overdrive gear, you'd have to rev the engine up, and pull an electric solenoid switch, and let your foot off the gas. Once the engine rpm slowed down to the right point, the overdrive would kick in. If you didn't pull the solenoid switch at exactly the right time, you'd end up blowing the fuse. Occasionally I would forget to shift out of overdrive once I got off the highway. I'd slow down and stop at a stop light. When I'd get a green light, I try starting out in first gear, but the overdrive was still engaged so it was more like starting out in second gear. The nice thing was that I got about 21 miles per gallon on the highway, and that was with a 4.11 rear end! Last edited by pjmoreland; 03-14-2005 at 12:11 AM. Reason: spelling |
