under bed spare
For trucks with spares under the bed are the crossmembers different than trucks that don't carry the spare there? I would like to locate my spare under my bed (currently its in the bed), but it looks like it would hang down too low. Any info or pics would be great. Thanks.

All frames are the same. Holes in the frame, allow 2 long hanger bolts and a spare tire carrier (crossmember looking device) to secure the tire. Sorry no pics. This factory setup holds the tire OK but is not "user friendly" as we say nowadays. It is a real back breaking job to remove or replace the tire to it's stored position.
I plan on installing a new truck style crank system on my old chevy. You can find them in the junk yards off of many make trucks. They have a chain or cable which is cranks the tire up or down. You will need to fabricate & install a crossmember to the frame to mount the crank assembly. |
