Stock or Dealer option?
I have a 71 Cheyenne, with the CST pkg. I have noticed on some pics of a friends 70CST and some other 72s that there is a second piece of trim about handle level on the body. Mine does not have that but does have rubber trim bumpers around the top of the truck bed just under the camper shell. I have Pics on the following post, but they dont have great detail of the bed trim.
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php3?t=148165 I have 2 questions. Is the trim around the top of the bed supposed to be there? Should my truck have the 2nd piece of trim around handle level?

The tailgate handle latch cover and upper trim on the body were options included in the cheyenene super package. Yours is a cheyenne which is one step down and didn't include those items in the cheyenne package. Still its minty looking truck...I'd leave the way it is till paint time decisions.

Thanks Rod,
So if I paint, best to pull the rubber trim on the bed and leave it off. Your reply did leave me with another question though. Were there regular C-10, and CSTs that year. Or is my cheyenne the base model for 71 and the CST was a trim package? I guess the real question (and I was trying to find this yesterday) is there a model guide for the 71ish years that describes the different steps in the trucks. Similar to the Scottsdale, Silverado..... guides that I have found on other posts.

Not sure why GM called the cheyenne package a CST package..but if you look at some option stickers it says cheyenne trim and on other it lists it as CST package.
Seems more a 1971 thing than 72 but Blazers were listed as CST trim also. There were in order ....custom , custom deluxe, cheyenne, and cheyenne super trim package levels as well as semi independent, custom camper package available for 1971. A CST fender badge was not put on a fleetside or stepside or cab and chassis truck in this year. I dont know of any rubber trim option on the box..musta been added on. |

Let me help you out man.... 69-70' It went in this order.... c10, custom deluxe, CST In 71-72, it went like this... custom deluxe, cheyenne, Cheyenne Super There were also packages like the highlander, eagle, etc. offered What you have is still a very nice trimmed out truck. Like Rod said, it is just below the Cheyenne Super which is the best you could get back then package wise like today's Silverado. Hope this helps Trevor

Great info guys, rest assured I am happy with the truck no matter where it sits on the totem pole, I was just curious. The more I get into this stuff the more I want to know about its history and the original options that were on it. That bit about the Cheyenne pkg being the same as the CST is good to know too. I was wondering about that.
