DIY Wiring Harness: Where can I get the connectors? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am interested in making my own wiring harnesses. The wire is easy enough to come by.

Anyone know where I can get the various connectors I need. I am looking for connectors for the headlamps, bulkhead connectors, and the ignition switch, and many others too numerous to mention.

Hints or tips would also be appreciated?

the connectors alone will probably cost you as much as buying a complete hardness. and thats if you can find them all. lots of various pigtails are available in the help section of the auto parts stores

I am interested in this also. Mainly the bulkhead connector terminals.

Bulkhead terminals are available at NAPA. Go to the FAQ thread and scope out my HEI post - pictures of the bulkhead terminals are there, along with pictures of the catalog @ NAPA which has them and the NAPA part numbers. HTH.

Cost is around 30¢/each

Shifty, those terminals are not for the bulkhead fuseblock. They are for nearly every other connector on the truck. The catalog pic looks familiar...

I really appreciate it. You helped me prove NAPA dude wrong. I had the biggest **** eating grin on my face when I showed him pictures scanned from his own catalog and he realized the customer was right for a change.

Chickenwing helped me with that too. Now I've got a box of those connectors!!

A few weeks ago my dad gave me some odds and ends he was going to throw out. Carquest sells the connectors also, including the plastic casings/housings for the metal connectors to go into. They've got all sorts of pigtails already made. So if you need some connectors, chances are that they have those too.

Assuming your considering fabbing all new harnesses from scratch, that'd be one hell of a job, especially locating the correct (new) connectors. A fella could reuse old connectors salvaged from several original harnesses, and maybe, just maybe find the correct contacts to rebuild them. The logistics are prohibitive on such a project unless you really like futility and frustration. I'm an electrician, and personally would much rather spend the money on a new set of harnesses.
