Altinator volatge question

I have a computer. and a small laptop screen both pulling 120v (theoreticaly) I want to run it in truck. How much would I have to upgrade my altintor to keep a good charging system?

Volts X Amps = Watts. Check the amp draw listed on your equipment. Typical computer and monitor draw about 1 amp each. 2 amps times 120 volts =240 watts.
240 watts divided by 12 volts = 20 amps. Figure 10 percent loss through the inverter and your're at 22 amps. Your cig lighter may have only a 15 amp fuse which would not last long. You may hve to run a seperate FUSED feed from the battery. Some alternators were rated only 35 amps, so if your're running the lights and heater fan, your're almost maxed already. I run a 400 watt invertor in my wifes van and can only plug in 1 laptop, if I try 2 laptops, the lighter fuse blows, but the larger alternator handles it OK. Depends on how often your want to use the equipment too.
