tempted by a neighbors truck

Ok, so a neighbor stops by tonite in his totally cool simulated 4x4 golf cart to tell me he has a 67 shortstep he's trying to sell. Of course I bite and go take a look. He's done a frame off on it, but totallly home done (not that there's anything wrong with that, as Seinfeld would say). The paint needs to be at least rubbed out, but there's no rust. He has fixed it all. All the wiring is new, new tires, Chrome 6 lug Corvette rally wheels, Inside the cab is done except it needs a seat. It has a WICKED sounding small block, with unfortunately a 3spd on the column, but under the hood has all been detailed as has under the truck. All in all it's a very nice truck, it just needs some finishing. He says it's a one owner truck, because he's never titled it, but I'm not giving that any creedence. Any guesses as to what I should offer for it (I'm pretty sure it's out of my league, but I figured I'd try). Sorry I don't have any pics. Anyone care to take a stab at it based on the info given?

Wow man, uhhhh, you shouldn't offer him anything. You really don't want it, you should tell someone local (say, Amelia, maybe 45 minutes away) where it is located, and forget you ever saw it. LOL Seriously, without seing it, any dollar figures given would be just guesses. You really have to see something like that before you can really say what a trucks worth. Talk to him, make him give you a price and work from there. I make it a point to never set a starting price on someone elses stuff. They usually always know what they want for something, and it's theirs, they should set the price.................Jerry

Yeah, I figure if he doesn't want to name a price, I'll make an offer that I can afford, and we'll see how bad he needs to get rid of it. Jerry if you are truly interested, I'll definitely point you in his direction.

If he drives over in a 4WD golf cart I would guess he's an ego-maniac, and was just trying to lure you to his garage so he can show off.

Or a bad golfer...I'm thinking if your golf cart needs 4wd, you're looking at a lot of unplayable lies.

Somebody always beats me to the puch line. Damn it. I agree with the egomaniac part. Just offer him 3500 and see if he laughs at you. If he doesnt than you know you've got a little room to bargain.

LMAO!

I really hate pricing another mans vehicles or equipement. I recently passed on a 16 foot dual axle trailer, because the guy refused to give me his price... he kept saying "what will you give me? I finally told him $200, and he got offended and told me very rudely I was crazy!

It's not a 4wd golf cart, it just has bigger than stock tires and sits up higher, as if it were a 4wd. Pretty cool in my mind actually. 1stTime, yeah, I'll make him a offer that is what I can afford, and is probably ridiculously low in his mind, but It wont' bother me, like mentioined before, he knows what he wants for it, so why not tell me? If he came to me, I figure he needs the money , so I'll see how bad he needs it.

I try not to deal with neighbors like that. I have had too many get mad at me. Guy down the street has a 68 GTO that he said to make an offer on it. I said 8 grand and he started getting pissed. What an A-hole. I would offer 3 grand and see what he says. If yes, give me a call!!!

When a guy says to make him an offer he is not seriously considering selling it! All you can do is offend him. Just laugh and tell him you would be happy if he gave it to you for free! Tell him you would be happy to post a listing on the board for him but you need a ball park figure. One thing is for sure...he ain't looking to give it away since he probably knows what he has in it and we all think our trucks are worth 2-3 times what we could sell them for...LOL!

I have to agree with sillyoldman and some others...he is looking to show off...nothing more.
