Tailgate value question

Can someone give me an idea of how much a 73-87 NOS GMC tailgate is worth?

Is it in the box or a take off? At least $200.

I've bought a couple in the last few years for $100 a piece that were taken off when the trucks were new. That means they have all the latch and hinge hardware attached. I feel like I did really well on them. One even has a perfect Silverado tailgate band. Those bands are over $300 alone.

I don't live very far from LMC and when it comes to sheetmetal, they are the last place I will look. Chevy Duty in Kansas City has new replacements for $299.00, and I can find them at swap meets locally for around $150 in good shape.

Aftermarket tailgates are schitt. I have one and it dents just about every time you step on it.

The problem is they aren’t made in Japan, try China or Taiwan. Not to get on the soap box (well maybe a little); It was the Japanese that kicked the crap out of the U.S. automakers starting in the eighties because they actually understood the meaning of quality and how to build it in their vehicles. Then, the U.S. automotive industry finally woke up and learned that quality did matter to consumers but only after losing a ton of market share……..

jap motors=good
jap metal=crap

LMC sheetmetal is total crap. LMC is good for some items..but for parts like tailgates and fenders its total crap. The metal on these aftermarket parts is really weak and kinda flimsy. If your looking for a tailgate do yourself a favor and buy original. $100 is ok for a tailgate in good condition.

I think I just ruptured my spleen laughing my @ss off at your last line "i'm a hillbilly, its all the same to me". I see you're from West Virginia, we'll I'm from the other side of the mountain, Virginia. I haven't heard the term hillbilly in 30 years or more. Thanks for the good chuckle........
