New way to transport a bed
I traded this 72 bed with other parts. I've been trying to get it out of my yard for some time and finally someone was serious enough to come pick it up. One easy to fix shallow dent above the passenger marker right on the upper trim hole and shallow indentations where tie downs used to be bolted. The front rail top was perfectly straight with no dings. Only 2-3 dings on the floor but has surface rust from water sitting. From underneath the bed looked perfect. I included the factory auxilliary tank(w/ sending unit). I kept the toolbox. After unbolting the cab and bed and building a dolly for the cab so it could be pushed out of the way, the father and son team came with their special tools to haul away the bed. It took 2 hours until 10 PM last night

I need the room so I trade for smaller parts. Pair of rust free inner fenders, radio and speaker assembly. The radio is untested, AM sign just has a hole when switched to AM and the frequency indicator doesn't quite line up when switched to AM. But I finally got the bed out. Anyone want a free 1972 longbed bare frame . I don't have a cutting torch so if you only want parts of it you're going to have to cut it yourself. No 2 hour grinding and hacking jobs at night please.

Yesterday someone asked me if one of my cabs would fit in the back of a stepside. Thanks to you, it will by tonight.

The last time I hauled a bed, I just turned it upside down and set it on top of my truck bed then strapped it down.

The last time I transported a long bed I drove 15 miles with a bare 4x4 4" lifted frame, 33" tires, no flaps, or working tailights, just dummy red lenses taped to the frame. ; Everything was legal coming back though.

Seems rather drastic to cut that up that way!
Looks to me like they gave themselves more work than they needed! If they needed the bed sides, look at all the work that is needed now to use them on their Truck!

Greenhorn Male: Is the Cargo Door from that bed available to buy? If so, I would be interested!

Just cut the door up and stuff it in a shoe box.I think that was really an ignorant way to go.Alot of work, less integrity in structure, and they are not that hard to dis-assemble.Not that hard to find a little help either.a good bodyman should know to avoid unecessary work.

If all they wanted was the bedsides, they could have unbolted 'em from the bed, or just air chisel the bolts off. Sad to see a straight bed floor get butchered.

Damn, another good bed floor gone. Thats a parts truck ? You should see what I'm trying to fix !! Should move to Cali I guess.
HERE IS A GREAT TIP : The metal bed floor boxes can be disasembled very quickly by TIGHTENING the bolts on the sides and around the wheel tubs and even most bolts on the front panel. They will TWIST OFF easily wlth about 1/2 turn of the socket. Have to remember to cut the 2 small spot welds at at the back too. Can use hacksaw if used carefully.

They originally said they were going to take it whole. I really didn't want to see it go that way, but I had it for sale for some time and was ready to let it go for $175 complete with toolbox with no takers and a lot of flakes. I told them with my recently injured back I may not be able to lift a lot and that they should bring at least 3 guys. They decided 2 of them with a sawzall and angle grinder would be enough.
I responded to a parts for sale add and went over their place to purchase a tilt and bucket seats out of a rust free 72 Blazer CST that the son parted out after completing a front end rebuild complete with crossover steering (0-miles). His friend offered to buy the body. The rest got parted out. If you think hacking the bed was crazy, I thought parting this blazer with a good body, top and new suspension was crazy. It had factory tilt buckets and AM/FM. He found out the engine was no good and I guess got tired of the project. I was pretty much in the same boat. I gave up my camper special with fact aux tank, tool box camper mirrors, dual batteries, tilt, highlander package because of unkown mechanical issues, (it had a 010 motor that had been decked from an El Camino, 14B full floater from a newer truck that needed the shock hangers moved, swivel buckets from a chevelle, and heater and AC boxes removed; and DMV ISSUES. As I was leaving the son asked me if I knew someone getting rid of a good bed cheap because he wanted to help his friend in need of a bed. I told him I got one with a toolbox and factory fuel tank option and he said his friend wanted a plain one and did't have much money to spend. As I was speaking to him I noticed the radio. I offered to trade inner fenders and the radio for the bed minus the toolbox if they picked it up. Last night they delivered the radio and inner fenders, their friend got his bedsides, the bed is out of my yard and now you know the rest of the story.

Tomatocity.....no title
Robert....I gave those hubcaps to another board member who hauled the truck to my house a while ago. RPOZ11....Shipping would be a lot cheaper if I cut the toolbox door in half. Sorry I can't help it, LOL. I'm not trying to keep you hanging but as you could see by the time of this posting how late I got back. The door does have a 2" rust hole on the outside bottom front and I want to take some pictures and give you the details before you decide you want it. I do have the 3 mouldings for the door and bed in good shape. I need to look for the key. I just had it few weeks ago but misplace it cleaning around the house. The fiberglass box and bracket is in great shape. I'll e-mail you pictures tomorrow.
