Unhappy Shes dead Jim

Well, I was headed out to the lake tonight to meet up with some family and friends that are out there for the weekend. On my way there, my 89's 305 blew up on me. She blew a headgasket when I downshifted, and shortly afterwards she hydrolocked, sending a couple things through the pan, bending a bunch of connecting rods, and totally obliterating the engine.

So I guess I am reduced to driving a 4 cylinder Buick Century

That's ok, I think the century probably makes more horsepower.

4cyl buick century will be 2.1 to 2.8 if i remember right
i had a 89 Olds Gutlass Ciera with the 2.5 4cyl
40mpg on the highway and i finally sold it when it had 200K miles
the O2 sensor was bad so i disconnected it in South Dakota, then when i drove to FL it ran super rich due to the elevation change and would do 0-60 in 12 sec...

sounds like you need to stick with a 350 next time

Wow ! thats the first time I have heard of an engine hydro locking that easy . Did you inspect it to see how bad it blew ? I just picked up a 1986 / 305 and it is getting water down into the oil pan pretty bad , is this common for the 305's to blow head gaskets that bad ?
