I remember seeing a post on this topic a while back, but I cannot see it now...been back about 10 pages....maybe I passed over it?

Are there any vendors that make a buf shield for our trucks? I have a nice new hood and fresh paint...my old one was littered with stone chips along the front verticle surface.

If not, I have my old hood still for a template, I can buy some lexan and make one......

Tim, that sounds pretty cool. The Lexan thing. Could you elaborate?

Well, I figured I would take a 4-5" strip of lexan, long enough to stretch from one end of the hood to the other (fender to fender iow), then used a heat gun to slowly heat the lexan and let it 'sag' into shape around the front of the hood. Then make a mounting bracket (I'm thinking that a strip of steel "U" channel will do, then glue, bolt or clamp the lexan into it).
Lexan can be painted on the hood side, so that from the front, it would look nice and smooth.....just thinking out loud.....

Bunch of work if one could just be purchased....

Don;t know of a molded bug gaurd for or trucks. Have looked. Considering that 3M plastic film stuff. Apply and cut to fit. I'm just scared I'll ham it up and cut into the paint.

Yeah, I looked into that too and have the same fears. Plus, I can't really see it standing up to a stone....the film will get tattered and look really bad.....

Guess I am off to the plastics shop.........

Dunno about that.... I've saw it installed and it is fairly rubberized in texture. Should be good for a few intermittant small rocks/gravels. Definate yes for the bugs. Supposed to let uv pass through also so the paint fades at the same rate.

LMC does sell a molded bug shield for our trucks but its held on by double sided tape to the front of the hood - there was a posting about them awhile back and everyone wondered how long they would stay on - I ordered one three or four yrs.ago and have never installed it - allways been waiting for the new paint job and still waiting!!!!!! HTH:::::::CB

I'll be darned. There it is on page 88 of my catalog. Looks like it is still 2 sided tape for the install...

My concern is whether the hood will always pop up high enough to get my fingers under the hood with the shield installed to pull the hood up the rest of the way. The shield must take up the precious little space between the outer grill and the hood edge. I also don't believe LMC's shield has a wide enough opening to let cleaning be done. Maybe enough for a high spray. Just wondering.

I think I'll go with professionally applied 3M plastic on my upcoming K10's repaint. That way I don't have to worry about messing up the cut or placement. It's pretty tough stuff and can be removed (professionally

) and replaced if a rock goes thru. I think they just use a heat gun to loosen the adhesive. Do any touch up paint between the R&R.
