fuel pump spacer 72 chevy 350 c10
should there be a spacer between the fuel pump and the block on a 72 Chevy C10 stepside 350? I have run the casting numbers on the block and it appears to be the correct (original?) engine. This is my friend's truck and for some reason the fuel pumps last about 3 minutes and self destruct. I am wondering if the pushrod from the cam that drives the fuel pump is bent or something like that. I suggested he get a new pushrod and fuel pump. Any other ideas? Thanks very much guys!

No spacers, just the mounting plate.....

when installing pump does he use the bolt thru the front of the block to hold the pushrod in place while mounting the pump???

hi guys. yeah, that's what I meant, that little plate there. I don't think he has one on there. would that matter? I would expect that if it wasn't in the exact right spot, the pushrod would kill it. I don't believe he is using a bolt through the front, are you supposed to? I never have, although I have only built a few engines myself... Thanks alot!

oh yeah, I see. I was thinking that was a spacer of some type. Guess I didn't remember it correctly. Thanks very much for the help. Hope we can figure it out. Then again, if he gets frustrated and gives up, he promised I would have first crack at the truck

it seems the pump is coming apart at the diaphram, that line where the upper and lower halves meet. (the biggest round part). thanks again!

Is that the correct pump for a small block ? IIRC the big block pumps have a longer arm and may bind up if used in a small block. Not sure on that, been a while, just another idea.
