I had an original harness rebuilt and was not impressed with it at all, so went with a Painless (best bang for the buck.)
Street & Performance is a great place to get anything for these engines www.hotrodlane.com. The sell parts, do programming, etc. They are a little pricey but have great stuff.
I am running a Rock Valley stainless steel tank with internal pump in my 71 and plan to do the same with my new project. They custom build the tank to your specs.

I should be around by the time you get ready to put the engine in. If you need a hand let me know. I will be putting my 2002 LS1/4L60E in the same time period.

Tim240Z - was that the older Vortec with the big black box looking pcm? If so who did the PCM work on it? Not familiar with those much...

Yes, it is the one with the little 'surge canister' type airbox behind the throttle body, and the centrally mounted injectors, and the black PCM unit. The PCM looks identicle to the LT1 PCM except for color (black vs. silver).

I initially sent the PCM to Nelson Performance to delete the VATS, set the diff ratio and tire size, but then had to make some further changes and decided to buy the TunerCat package (again). I used TunerCat to edit the LT1 PCM for the LT1/T56 combo that I had in my 240Z.

I spliced into the OEM factory harness (for both conversions) as I think the aftermarket wiring looms are over priced, and not all that 'Painless'.....

keep this up guys and maybe get me off my slow... I have a 2001 5.3 sitting in front of my truck. I am working on the mounts but should have it going soon. It is stock (due to funds) but should make the truck scoot. I will post as I contiune the saga.

My engine arrived AFU!!!!

Look what the trucking company (R&L) did to my new (only 10 miles) engine and tranny! They broke the bands during shipping which caused the motor to roll on it's side braking the computer, fuel pump, fuel rails, coils......... They then rewrapped it trying to hide the damage. Luckily my friend who was picking it up for me, took off the wrapping paper and discovered the damage and refused shipment. If he hadn't, it would have been his word against theirs. ALWAYS CHECK THE GOODS BEFORE ACCEPTING!!! The driver had the nerve to say "It's just a used engine." What a knucklehead! The company I bought it from said that they would take care of it and get me another engine/tranny, but man 10 miles! Maybe its an omen that the vehicle and/or engine was never meant to be driven! Oh, well maybe the next one will make it.

Damn!!! That is enough to make you go 'postal'. I would squeeze that shipping company for everything you can get. That engine with such low miles is a once in a blue moon deal......stick it to 'em!!
Are you going to salvage that engine and replace the broken stuff, or have the shipper pay you for the complete package?

Maybe you're right, maybe that unit has bad Karma!
