Who has converted thier truck to a serpentine belt system?

I am sure I read a post where someone used parts from a s-10 blazer. But, I can not find the thread anymore.

I would love some input.

Anyone have any pictures of the finished job.

s10's have small block chevys? maybe he used some s10 pulleys.

S-10's with the 4.3 liter have a 90 degree v6 which for all intensive purposes is nothing but a 350 small-block with the 2 back cylinders cut off. Everything that bolts to the front or back of a 4.3 is the same bolt pattern as the small-block chevy

The motor im buying is in an s-10 blazer. Its a 350 with all the 4.3 stuff on the front. Water pump, alt , ac, ps, everything from the 4.3. The only thing to remember is that the wp is reverse rotation from the small block pump.

Don't have any pictures handy but I used a serpentine setup from a '92 Camaro 350. Moved the battery to the driver's side since that's where the alternator is along with the electric fan control module. You will need to drill and tap a 3/8 X 16 hole (if your head doesn't already have it) in the front of the passenger side cylinder head for one of the bracket bolts but that's no big deal.

Ok so can you use a later model a/c compressor with the rest of a 70 fact a/c system?

The water pump is reverse rotation because of the serpentine set-up, not because it is off of a v6.

s95930 - make sure it's a 4.3, the smaller v6's were a 60-degree V-6, like the normal car-type v-6 and it is not the same set-up.

boraxman - Good question, I'm using an aftermarket system that all you need is an adapter plate to be able to hook the hoses up to the style compressor that is used in most of the serpentine set-ups. I'm sure there is a way, even if you have to get hoses custom made.

If you need part number assistance...I have all the part numbers for a 92 camero TPI serpentine system and some parts numbers from a '90 model suburban TBI.
The reason you ask? I had originally intented to go with a TBI system using the '90 suburban as a donor...then as time passed, I elected to go with a ramjet-350 crate motor, only to find out, the serpentine system from the TBI system would not work :-(
have a few pics, but not too many close ups to put on line yet. But will have in the near future. I ended up getting a A1-Cardone heavy duty water pump (new, not reman) instead of using the stock ac delco pump. Also using an AGR power steering pump with a retro fitted (old style) ps hose fitting to us the stock type power steering hose....

Boraxman: I am hoping to use the later model a/c compressor On my truck. I have factory air. I think I should beable to rob some hoses off a later model vehicle or have some hoses made.

Anyone have any suggestions or experince?

If it is not possible I will most likely rip out the factory system and go with an aftermarket system like vintage air.

I am using an R4 type compressor on my truck, using the '71 factory A/C for everything else. My R4 compressor is mounted high on the passenger side, which makes for rather easy plumbing. Alot of the serpentine systems mount the compressor on the drivers side, which is ok, but makes for some plumbing issues to deal with the extended routing.

Well I went to the Salvage yard and picked up most of what I think I need. Most of it is off a 93 s-10 blazer with a 4.3 liter.

The fan is off a 90 caprice that also had a serpentine belt. The fan from the blazer was smaller.

I was thinking about just taking the whole system from the caprice but it was set up to use an air pump. I think the Blazer setup will look cleaner when i am done.





Got it all for $40.

Now you need to find a BB fan shroud for that fan. On the PS pump you can take the fitting out of the pump reservoir (it does come out) and replace it with the one from your truck, that way you can use your same PS hoses. Also did you get the Alt? Its a good time to upgrade to one of the CS alts.

I was going to upgrade to an internal regulate alt.

What is a CS alt?

CS is a newer series of AC Delco internal regulated alts. Be careful when buying an alt other than what goes in the vechicle the serp brackets are off of. Take your bracket with you and make sure the new alt will fit, they are not one size fits all. Thats why I asked if you got the alt with the brackets. When getting things such as serp brackets or ever regular brackets its best to get everything off the same vechicle, sometimes mix and match will work and sometimes it won't.

What are you going to use for a water pump, buy new? Same for A\C compressor, buy new? You know your current ones won't work?
I know its a slippery slope, I've been there. One you start it just snowballs.

I am going to buy a new Water pump. And I will probably buy a new A/C compressor.
