Help with TH350. Short vs. Long Shaft
OK, I believe that my TH350 (which needs replacing due to it being blown) is a long shaft. Is this a common shaft (vs. a short shaft) for our trucks
I'm looking at an Ebay purchase CLICK HERE I don't think that I need a new converter, cause the one in my old tranny is hopefully good. Any thoughts folks?

go with the long shaft, short shaft trannies are for cars generally. unless of course you engine is sitting in the inline 6 position than the short shaft will work.
ALWAYA ALWAYS replace the converter.....if there are filings stuck in it they will get pumped from the converter directly into your new trans. unless you get the converter flushed out completely. just my 2 cents

these trucks came with short shaft trannys in the 69 - 782 equipped with the 350. I'm not sure if it was 73 or later when they moved to long shaft.
However, long shaft trannys are way more common and it makes it easier to do the one piece shaft everyone wants. Other than that, there is no reason to use one over the other. If your old tranny is junk, so is the converter. |
