Bigger Carb

Okay earlier I had posted that "she is running" and I told ya'll that I had a 650 CFM carb on the 402. Well now I am going to get a 800 CFm do you think that might be a little much or not?

Also I have done head work (new springs and rockers) and Headers, HEI, and Performer 2-0 Edelbrock intake?

I have alot of head work, my motor is conservativly rated at around 450hp,
and when I was having issues a while back everyone said my 750 dp was a
lil big for my motor, but I don't think so, I ran a 850 vs on my old p/u w/ a
stock 400, stock heads, etc...... and it ran like a scalded dog, beats me

CID x max rpm / 3456= all the cfm you need. You can then take the result times the Volumetric efficiency of you motor. With out getting to in depth here is an idea of different VE's
stock=.85
upgraded stock with ported heads=.90-.95
aftermarket heads =.95-.100
After market race heads=.100-.105
Full race port setup=.110

There are many other variables in figuring VE, but this formula and those head specs will get you very close to the correct carb size
