Yet another factory tach question

I found a factory tach in a '78 Blazer this weekend. It read 3500 rpm when I looked at it, without the engine running (junkyard truck). Is it safe to assume it was broken?

Probably. From what I have been told that is one sign that they are going bad. Is it in good condition besides that?

Ditto. That is can be a sign of it being bad. You can always test it. Crossy has a bench test for it I believe.

I didn't look at it very closely because I thought it was broken. I was considering buying just because the place gets the same price for any two similar parts, whether one is more desireable than the other or not. I didn't have time to pull it, and forgot to ask what it would cost. It would probably be cheap, though.

I doubt it is still there now. The truck was dated 07/15/05, and was off in a corner. Someone else has probably found it by now. I was hoping for an answer yesterday so I could run out and get it after work.

Without power applied to the circuit ther eis no way to tell. After I turn my truck off mine will drift up too. Would be worth it to buy (if cheap) as long as it moves when power is applied it can usually be easily fixed.

If you look at past posts you will see that I have fixed tachs for a few members. Let me know if you need help with it.

Thanks. I'm trying to figure out how I can get out there to see if it is still available.

If you do decide to pick it up and don't use it, I would be interested in the cluster, working or not.
