im going to be taking a complete heat/air con system out of one truck and moving it all to another. is there anything i need to know about taking off the compressor or that can thing (evaporator?). ive read something about high pressure side etc etc. i dont care to have this take off the top of my head...thanks

make sure you get the system evacuated before removing the hoses.

you have to take it in to a shop or a/c place unless you want to buy the equipment

Yes you can do this yourself but it is illegal. The refrigerant is supposed to be recovered and not vented to atmoshpere.

"Back in the day" when you needed to repair something on a partially charged AC system a tech would simply crack open one of the fittings and vent the R12 into the atmosphere. You want the coolant to slowly hiss out so all the oil doesn't blow out.

As "chickenwing" pointed out this is now illegal.

If I had a nickle for every pound of R12 I vented before the law changed I wouldn't have to work any more.

So how does R12 create a hole in the ozone layer when it is heaver than air? Was that out loud?

Yeh but sometimes being bad feels pretty good. If you ask me why worry about it, big brother hasn't taken over yet, or has he. Just crack a line so it bleeds slow and not lose to much oil.

i vented mine in the driveway, some mexicans sure were lookin at me but you have to watch out because it can freeze anything it comes to contact with. mine was brown, so it probably wasn't any good anyways.
