Gov Lock Eaton questions, Help!!

I have this gov lock 3.42 rearend that I want to put in my 84 short fleet. I took off the cover today to check everything out. It appears that the cam gear has teeth missing (several spreadout over the circumfrence) and the gov lock assembly is missing some teeth on 1/3 of its tiny size as well. I take it the cam and the gov lock assy. are to be full of teeth? and no missing ones? I bought this rear end w/a 30 day warrenty and plan on taking it back if these parts are indeed bad. Any help from someone w/more expertice than I here??

Thanks
John

gov lock is trash to begin with, even in 100% functional condition. the're known for cracking the carriers, and when they do so they take the ring and pinion with them. i'd throw it away and start with a better aftermarket carrier.

After doing some research (surfing) on the net I conclude your correct. They seem to lock up violently causing this cam gear and lock assy. to grenade. I'll save some money and get a Auburn Limited slip next year. Auburn tends to be easier on the carrier and assoc. parts.

Thanks
John

I have a 10 bolt in my 84. That should make it the 28 spline.
