What should I use to replace the old crusty seam sealer in the drip rails? Is it the same stuff GM used between body panels?

We use 3M panel bond adhesive. This stuff works great, is self leveling, dries hard as a rock, is sandable and seals out moisture. It's expensive and takes a special gun but is a forever fix.

I just used the 3M seam sealer that comes in the caulk-gun tubes. About 1/2 a tube did the entire driprail, and the all the seams in the floor that run across & around the firewall. Dries hard, so I can sand it perfectly smooth (no more finger marks or high/low spots) in the drip rail before painting....or in my case...sealing/priming!

It's the white strip you see. I might hide it under another layer of orange epoxy sealer. (Sorry I don't have 'drip rail' pics handy?!?!)

That looks likle a great product to use wish I would have came across that before now.

It's just that my new GM seam sealer has already cracked in a couple of spots. I am pretty fustrated it's impossible to fix. With out repainting the entire cab.

This stuff is supposed to be very good although I have no first hand experience with it.

3M claims: "Automix Self-Leveling Seam Sealer is applied directly over primed metal and matches OEM seams with no shrinkage or cracking."

here's the stuff all of my buddies use it's called "fusor" (we get a discount

) and it is a 2 part like the 3M and it also needs a 2 tube gun to apply it. it is awesome stuff and it is self leveling too. http://froogle.google.com/froogle?q=...ff&oi=froogler

I used 3M drip chek and it worked great. Took about 2 tubes and it's self leveling.

I have a tube 3m Drip Check and a tube of 3m Fast n Firm. I have not tried either yet but it is what the paint store recommended.

We have done several cars/trucks using 3 M's Fast and Firm and results since about 2000 have not been good. Every truck/car that we have used it on has cracked since then. It makes you sick to see it happen. We have some restored cars/trucks that we did 15 years ago using 3 M Fast and Firm and the seams have not cracked. I cannot prove the product has changed but we cannot make it work anymore.

We have been expermenting with other seam sealers hoping to find something that will last. Time will tell but I would suggest that you use the products that members have had some long term experience with.
