general update on progress :)

Well, i've had my truck for almost two years now, and i've had my licence a year and a half round about. My dad bought the truck new in 1980, just because it had a V8 and what good ol' boy don't want a pickup? But he never intended to keep it more than a few years. Enter marriage and two kids and whatdoyaknow, here it is. He kept it really well, and the only thing he ever neglected was the tranny, but he was never hard on it.

Well, my parents refinanced the house to pay for a whole a$$load of bills we got slammed with, and depending on how much they salt away, i'll get a lil piece of change, not a lot, but just a lil bit. I'll be thankful if its just a "you're SOL" 'cause i don't deserve that.

Basically, this is what i'm looking at getting via any money my parents will be generous to share with me or from starting my job in a couple weeks.

Pine Bedwood
Mounting hole installation
Bed strips Polished stainless punched
Front bed panel
Front bed panel mounting bolts
Bed bolt kit (wood to strips) polished stainless
Bed to frame bolt kit polished
bed mounting pads
Bed side panel left
Bed side panel right
Bed cross sill
Rear Cross Sill
Rear fender bolts
Tailgate
Stainless tailgate chains
Clear chain cover
Tailgate letters, chrome
Tailgate hinge urethane
Dash pad
Dash pad fastener set
Dash bezel, black and silver w/ A/C
Coil Springs and leaf springs

When i get all the body stuff, i'm gonna get my new rockers i have had welded in and get it painted

There's still another long list of stuff i want to finish my truck, but compared to what a lot of y'all have / are doing, its piddlywinks. That up there comes out around 2 grand, and everything else i want comes out to around 1700. I'm not going all out or even above par, i just want my truck to be, um, not restored, but like, remade i think is the term people use.

Just figured i'd update on my progress, because it may not seem like it, but i'm pretty far along IMO. And I am a camera w**** so pictures will be plenty.

So your betting on getting between $3700 and nothing from your parents? Are you going to just pay for it yourself if they don't give you any money?

I'm thinking the most i would get from my parents might be 500 bucks, and all the rest, i plan on earning from working. If they don't give me anything, then i'll just work for it all. No biggie, really. "One values what he buys himself more than that which is given to him." - Wise Man

I like that. Also one values what he builds himself and not what others did before him. You can be proud of what you have but you have more pride in the knowledge you did it "yourself".

I second that! I was never given anything. If I wanted something I had to work and save for it. Sounds like you have a good plan Cliffsta. Keep it up.

Good I was just checking. On the Audi site i'm usually on there are a few "rich kids" that parents buy them the car and then pay for all their thousands of dollars in mods. It's pretty sad. Glad you know how to work for things

A few good tips for ya... (if you wanna hear them out!)

i just completed my restoration a few weeks back and i must say, a lot of doing a project like you are talking, and like i did, is knowing where to find things and knowing what things are worth.... in the course of my project, i funded a lot of stuff by selling other things that i didnt need... if you ever go to a salvage yard, do yourself a favor and look at every truck or car that you know may have something of value... even if you already have your guages, or seat, or seatbelts, etc... if you find an ultra rare set of cherry black seat belts, or a set of buckets, chances are, the stuff can be picked up mega cheap!

Also, in any restoration - NOBODY does it alone!!!

just my $.02
