7200 Miles Later, Back In PA

Boys & Girls,
PHEW! What a CRAZY adventure! I can sum it up with 2 sentences. 3 weeks is TOO long for a vacation. AND... 3 weeks is NOWHERE NEAR long enough for the kind of vacation that we undertook. I got to meet Rick (midyearvet) in Napa CA. What an AMAZING collection of Vettes, hot rods and trucks! Also got to meet Gary (Ironhorse) and his wife Martha at Pennys Diner in Witchita KS. What TRULY great people! (I also met future wives # 2,3,4,5 and 6!) Was hoping to meet ALOT more of you, but I NEVER would have made it back by today. We did 16 states in 20 days, WOW! I can ACTUALLY say that I " went to LA via Omaha" bacause thats EXACTLY what we did. I "stood on THE corner in Winslow Arizona", rode most of the FASTEST roller coasters in America, got a FRIENDLY ride in a Sheriffs car (who was a FELLOW Air Force guy), went to Reno AND Vegas and didn't spend A CENT, got a flat in Flagstaff, and played football on the Bonneville Speedway after taking the Saturn wagon up to 115! I didn't see a 67-72 truck until IOWA, then I had to stop writing them down because there were JUST TOO MANY! Thanks to all the well wishers and emergency contacts along the way! You gave us GREAT peace of mind. Take care, Mike "Hot Rod" Todd

In Winslow, did you see the girl in a flatbed Ford? She`s a grandmother now and switched to Chevys. She wasn`t slowin`down to take a look at Jackson Brown. It stalled and she was wondering if she should ask him to help.I bet you had alot of songs go through your head.Especially when you were getting you kicks on Rt.66(or I-40 for that matter).Glad you did it.There`s nothing like putting 1/3 of the mainland under your tail in three weeks.

Back At Ya'

Rick: The pleasure was all mine my friend. You and your wife are top of the class. I will certainly be looking forward to my next visit to Napa.
Steve: If I ever get any lessons on picture posting, I will post some EXCELLENT pictures. I was not able to get together with Tim (tomatocity), although I would have loved to. I hope you got your tailgate fixed.
Bill: Great to be back. I will catch up with you soon.
Special: I apologize that I lost my list with your name on it. I don't know if you have ever been there, but the building that the mural is on burnt down, but THAT wall survived the fire. They have actually built a "standing on the corner park" next to it. It has a statue of Jackson Brown, and a red flatbed there, and the mural has the reflection of the truck with a girl in it. They have the wall propped up, but the park is closed for obvious reasons. I hope they will be able to save it. Believe it or not, "Take It Easy", started playing on the radio while we were there! It must be a tradition every day or something. We spent ALOT of time on 66 and its sister road, I-40.

Carlisle Dates?

Steve,
When is Carlisle this time? I haven't gone for years because everything there seems to be INTERNET priced (if you know what I mean) It takes the fun out of it for me when everything costs an arm and a leg. That's why I got out of the Corvette hobby YEARS ago. Everything you needed was $1000!
I prefer Canfield OH, ANY DAY! Well, I will talk to you soon, Mike

Hmm?

K: Probably the places I met future wives 2 through 6! Hehe. I flew for the Air Force for 10 years, so I had been alot of the places to begin with, but I got to see a few new ones too. I would have to say that AZ and NM were the prettiest. Mount Rushmore was a lifelong dream come true. I got to sit in traffic for 2 hours in Death Valley. AC does not work after a certain temperature. They actually have signs telling you to shut it off to avoid overheating. I WAS skeptical, but it WAS true. Meeting the board members was a high point. The tire turned out to be a cracked rim (which are special order from Saturn at $400 a pop) so we decided to limp it home on Fix-a Flat. Found out that you CAN put too much FaF in a tire. At 60 MPH it sounds like the car is going to shake apart. Had to get the tire broke down and remove the slime and FaF. Thanks go out to Josh at the Marathon Tire Garage on Wilbur Wright road outside of New Castle IN. He patched up the crack the best he could, and we were flying down the road again. Friendliest girls was a tie between Carson City NV, Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana. (2&3,4,5,6 respectively!) I will probably be moving to the Mid-west one day!
