Are they relaively rust free? I plan on wire brushing the surface junk off of them and painting them.

I can get you pics tomorrow but yeah they are relatively rust free. They do have some light surface rust. They still opened and closed just fine......jt

PM sent Tommy. This might be the oddest sale thread ever. I know I haven't been here long but talk about wishywashy.

Yeah, but why buy tin when you can get gold for the same price. This board is great about that, you always get the best parts for the best price. Glad you got what you needed.........jt

Yeah, and it figures I'd be the one to start it.

So, let me give everyone their "moneys worth" and explain why I need a pair of hinges in the first place.

To make a short story long, I had Old Yeller's 350 short block rebuilt by an old circle track racing legend in the south part of the county where I live. Old Yeller now sports a balanced and blue printed engine, 0 deck height, flat top single eyebrow hypereutectic pistons, Pro Lightning Al heads with 2.08/1.60 valves, 280 custom ground Com Cam, 9.8:1 com ratio, Edelbrock intake and a 625 Road Demon (which I may upgrade to a 750 Speed Demon).

Well when I went to crank it it would turn over and run about 2 seconds and die. Checked everything couldn't figure it out, let it sit for about 2 months in frustration and finally took it into a local mechanic who used to drive for the the feller who built my short block. He hummed and hawed and finally checked the spark plug gap which was to narrow. I had set it exactly where my engine builder said to but the mechanic said he must have thought I was running a magneto instead of HEI.

Now it cranks and runs like a top. A very loud and raunchy top at that and just what I wanted. Before I had the truck taken in to the mechanic I put a hood on it temporarliy just in case it rained.

The original hood was damaged about 10 years ago when a storm knocked a brick off the top of an apartment where I was living. I knocked most of the dent out and lived with the dimple all these years figuring I'd restore the truck some day anyway. When this process got started about 2 1/2 years ago I was doing some work in Atlanta where Goodmark Industries is based so I bought a reproduction hood and brought it home. Then this summer I was at a junk yard looking for a replacement brake drum for my '94 Burb when I notice this '71 PU being parted out so naturally I go have a look.

There wasn't a straight piece of unrusted sheetmetal anywhere on that truck except one place. The Hood. It was flawless. How it survived all these years without so much as a scratch is beyond me. Naturally, I worked out a trade with my old hood for that one and $50 later I'm on my way home figuring to sell the Goodmark hood and get back a little bit of my money.

Well, the old '71 hood is what I stuck on Old Yeller before I sent him to the mechanic. I didn't have the front grill on the truck so I took a good old piece of bailing wire and tied down the hood.

On the way home everything was going great. I was enjoying hearing the sound of the rebuilt engine for the first time and after I got on the county road that leads to my house I decided to open her up a little bit. When I hit about 70 I'm guessing everyone knows by now exactly what happened.

WHAM

Thankfully, only the hood and the hinges were trashed. And at least it was the '71 hood and not the Goodmark hood.

So there you go. That's why I need these cotton picken hinges.
