Back up light will not work on Burb
I know the bulbs are good and the same goes for the fuse. What else could cause the back up lights not to work. Where do I look for the problem? Thanks

What kind of tranny do you have? A 3 on the tree has the backup switch on the column. That switch breaks easily.

After you've checked the neutral safety switch on the steering column, try cleaning the fuse socket. Mine was working intermittently, and that was the problem.

Thanks guys, will check these out. Do not know how to check to see if the neutral safety switch is good or bad. How do you tell?

first place i'd check would be the socket// with the key in the on position and the tranny in reverse you should have 12v to the center electrode of the socket if so then you either have a bad bulb ,dirtyy contacts or bad ground if no juice at the socket then check the switch, theres a thin dark green wire that with the key in the on position should be feeding 12v to the backup switch and when the tranny is in rev the 12v comes thru the light green wire to the backup lamps

If it's just your neutral safety switch that is out of adjustment, your back up lights should come on somewhere in the shifting range. With the key in the "on" position, try shifting slowly through all gears and see if the back up lights come on somewhere other than in reverse. If your back up lights come on somewhere other than in reverse, I'd recommend making sure your shifter linkage is adjusted properly before adjusting the neutral safety switch. You'll know that your shifter linkage is adjusted correctly if you can shift between neutral and drive without pulling back on the shifter lever.
If your back up lights don't come on at all, I'd suspect the screws that hold the metal light housing to the body and provide the ground path. |

Another possiblity to check down the line:
The bulb sockets could have corrosion at the bulb contact points. Easy check with voltmeter. Easy clean up, but watch to not wear down the contact points. I've found contact points on the end of spliceable wires in auto parts stores.
