You will need plates on top, and cups on bottom. The plates should be bolted in so they can be removed when needed. These pics are from 73-87 trucks but your front suspension should be the same....

You can see from the pic's you won't lay the cross member unless you modify it and you may also have to section the cross member as well. there is a disscussion on the forum about the cross member sectioning and I think one about changing the locations of the lower A arms so the are higher up on the member.

1sick7, are you the guy with the single huge bag on the rear of your truck with like a spider web of brackets? If so, it looks great!

Z a frame means you cut the frame and move a section up "x" amount of inches. Here are some pice to better explain....

Your very welcome. It's an old school trick that was around way before bags, dropped spindles and other modern methods of lowering were an option. It wasn't untill the past few years that it started coming back into play.

Although I would Z a frame before I would "ever" consider a body drop I still have reservations about cutting up a frame. When done correctly it's a viable solution to getting an extra few inches of drop. I'm concerned that some Z'ed frames are mere hack jobs....

How do you mount the bags if you don't use a plate? Do you mean cup? I don't get it?

That's cool! I was just trying to figure out how that was possible. I have heard of guys not running the cups on the bottom so it will drop more, but it sounds like a bag blow out waiting to happen.....

Roll a piece of 1/8" thick metal about 1/2"tall in a circle .. Weld it in your crossmember to locate your bag mount cup. This keeps it from moving around. I lay arms pretty hard and it only gave me an inch or so (you may get away with not using them on top). But that’s just me it would suck to be 1 inch short!!! I was told same as you that I needed to run them on top to lay out. I got my cups from Suicide Doors I believe they were the 98ish Chevy kit. By the way I am running 3 inch drop spindles as well..(ask fastbagged68 if ya need more help he helped me allot gave me awesome instructions)

I had to just to make room for the bag I basically just made the spring hole in the crossember bigger with a torch.

This is the best pic I can fined sorry

I really don't see the advantage unless you plan to do a crossmember drop. With mine set up running cups and plates the arms lay on the ground. I'm not sure how much lower than the ground you need to get????

Not to hate at all, but unless you plan on cutting the outter section of your cross member out running cups on top will not help you at all. This is very popular on mini's such as Sdimes to run bags up top and cut away at the cross member to allow the back to raise up higher. On these trucks I would just plate it though. Jason sells a kit for like $60 and all you have to do is drill some holes and bolt it in. I am getting ready to shorten my bottom cups some, but you really dont need too. But 1/2 inch is a 1/2 inch when you want to lay body.

I agree on the cups. I plan on doing a crossmember drop (some time in the future) I just did it b/c I was told you could not lay out with out them on top. Like I sayed I think you could get away with the plate on top as N2TRUX showed you can. I would go that way if i did it agin. ""But 1/2 inch is a 1/2 inch when you want to lay body"" i like that! thats what i did the cups LOL
