Changing speedo gears in an NP205?

The speedo on my 87 GMC 3500 quit working. I replaced the cable with no change. When I spin the back of the gauge, the needle moves, so I think the gauge is ok... plus the truck is throwing a VSS code, so it seems pretty sure that the cable isn't spinning. Anyway... I have a gear reduction adapter between the transfer case and cable. I checked that and it's working fine, which basically leaves the drive or driven gear in the transfer case. I've changed these on 700R4s and on T5 transmissions, but I've never done it on a transfer case. Is this a piece of cake, or is it a project?

Ask a MOD to move this to the 4x4 board or delete it and re-post the same thing over there yourself. You'll get a better response I'm sure.

It's not too bad to pull the transfer case apart should take you about 2-3 hours (tops) the first time. It's fairly straight forward just dont force anything comming apart.
